Study on Healing – Does just mouthing the words “I Believe to be healed” work?- Part 2

Believers who are of faith (believing) are the same as the children of Abraham. Does this mean when we speak or act as he did then we are children of Abraham? Or is it just a religious statement that has no power or control over being healed from sickness, disease, injury, or death?

He therefore that ministers to you the Spirit, and works miracles among you, does he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know you therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham – Galatians 3:5-7(Romans 4:3, James 2:23)

  • The New Birth didn’t become available until after the Law ended
  •            Abraham believed God before the Law
  •            Believers today have the new birth available because Abraham believed God
  •            It is not our believing the Law or being a member of any denomination that brought the New Birth
  •            Truth is the New Birth became available because Abraham believed God, not by any good works we did
  • He believed God and it was accounted(like a deposit in your checking account to be spent or used later) for righteousness(the right standard for living life)

The standard of what it means to be healed today is not us controlling the healing by the statements we make, “I believe to be healed,” thinking I am in control of the situation. It became available because Abraham believed in God, which made available the New Birth, which in turn made available being able to use God’s Spirit and be healed

The term his believing was accounted to him for righteousness is a big deal. Abraham could speak words and these words become a reality over 1900 years later. The question is what were these words that he spoke and did they bring to pass the new birth?

Believers are also the seeds (offspring) of Abraham

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continues not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, the man that does them shall live in them. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is every one that hanged on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it is but a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no man disannulled, or added thereto. Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He said not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, and to thy seed, which is Christ. And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect – Galatians 3:8-17

For you are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as having been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you be Christ’s, then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise – Galatians 3:26-29

  • Again, If Abraham wouldn’t have believed God about the coming Messiah (John 8:56) and believers being his seed, the new birth may have never happened!
  •       We have the opportunity to become believers today because of the faith (believing) of Abraham, and it wasn’t by the Law, but through Jesus Christ
  •       Compared to the new birth, which was made available by Jesus Christ, the Law is a curse, not a blessing
God explains more about Abraham believing Him before the law. God talk to him around 1920 BC, and the law was given to Moses around 1491 BC, that is 429 years earlier What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what said the scripture? Abraham believed in God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that works are the reward not reckoned of grace, but debt. But to him that works not, but believes on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describes the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputed righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. Comes this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision or uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they are not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised – Romans 4:1-12
  • Abraham believed God and He counted it to him for righteousness, the right standard for living life – Genesis 15:6
  • God told Abraham to circumcise himself and his household – Genesis 17:9-14
  • This circumcision had nothing to do with the law which was given years later
  • Abraham’s believing God had nothing to do with his good works but is by grace
God further explains more about Abraham believing Him before the law  For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect: Because the law works wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression – Romans 4:13-16
  • Abraham would be the heir of the world not through the law but by believing what God had told him he would be
  • And if it was because of the law, it wouldn’t have led to the coming of Christ and the new birth
God summarizes what it means to believe Him Therefore, it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end, the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickens the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore, it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our justification – Romans 4:17-25
  • Abraham took in the information that God told him, then didn’t go to the world or social media for an explanation
  • He took in God’s information and didn’t think it was untrue, if he did, that is what God calls unbelief
  • Abraham was fully persuaded that what God had promised he could do
  • Because of Abraham’s positive mindset concerning God’s promise, which God called his righteousness. God gave him what He had promised Abraham including the future birth of His son and the new birth becoming available (future believers called his seeds, which will be more than the number of stars in the sky! – Genesis 15:5)
  • It took over 1500 years for this future promise to become a reality
  • If a person is sick or injured, they don’t want to wait 1500 years to be healed, just a different promise, healing is in the present, starting from after you are prayed for!
After God explained that Abraham did believe Him, now comes the hard part explaining how Abraham pulled it off! We have become conditioned to think that when we speak words they will come to pass. The words that came out of Abraham’s mouth after God spoke to Abraham molded his life and made available the future seeds. In times of ill-health, we need to understand why God called him his friend and how he believed God. Whatever that is, that is the believing it takes to be healed
