Abraham’s birth, lineage, and early life
And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah: And Nahor lived after he begat Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters. And Terah lived seventy years and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Now, these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot. And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees. And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. But Sarai was barren; she had no child. And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran – Genesis 11:24-32
- Interesting to note that Abraham had 2 brothers, Nahor and Haran, who was the father of Lot
- Later Lot played a role in Abraham believing God, saving him from the enemy two times, first by defeating the armies that took Lot captive, and secondly saving Lot from the ungodly cities of Sodom and Gomorrah before he destroyed the cities – Genesis 14:1-24,19:1-26
- Nahor married the daughter of Haran and Abraham (Abram) married Sarah (Sarai), who was barren and they had no children
- God contacted Abraham, Abraham didn’t contact Him
- God first tells Abraham what he wanted him to do (in bold gray text), leave your country, get out, leave your family, and then I will show you where to go. Abraham believed God because he left
- Then God tells Abraham what he would do for him (in bold black text)
- What is believing to be healed all about? Abraham did what he was told to do, he believed what God told him what he would accomplish if he did what God told him to do
- If Abraham wouldn’t have obeyed God the new birth wouldn’t have happened over 1400 years later. Another individual would have had to believe God as Abraham did to make the new birth available
- This is not a small thing, he uprooted everything he had and his household and left. God said he would show him where to go, but first, he had to go, then God would show him where to end up (12:1)
- It isn’t written where God told him to go, he ended up going to the land of the Canaanites. After he was in this land God talks to him (12:6,7)
- The Canaanite nation was the enemy of God’s people, He approached Abraham as he entered their land, could it be that God was protecting him by telling Abraham I will also give you the land of the Canaanites?
- Abraham was the second person to build an altar, the first was Noah (Genesis 8:20) after God saved him and his family from the flood
- Interesting God didn’t tell him to make one, it was before the law
- One of Noah’s sons was Shem, and one of his sons was Terah, Abraham’s father, so he knew about what an altar to God stood for
- Just as Noah believed God to build the ark, Abraham believed in God promises which was still future
- Both showed respect for God’s promises to them
- Calling on the name of the Lord is asking God to deliver on what he had already promised. Also, a term showing honor and respect. An important point is we are referring to the one true God, not a false god
- Abraham didn’t ask God for help, maybe he didn’t see the danger of what he did, but God did and intervened. God hit Pharoah with great plagues and his household, not just a slap on the wrist (12:16)
- Or did Abraham decide by his 5 senses to tell Pharoah Sarah was his sister?
- Abraham was just living life trying to carry out what God told him to do, that’s called believing God
- The problem is Abraham knew what God told him to do, do we know what God is telling us to do?
- Pharoah gave Abraham the things that made Abraham wealthy, so why do believers today think it is God’s will to not be?
God communicates with Abraham a third time after Lot made a drastic life decision to go to Sodom to live
And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift now thy eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou sees, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee. Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD – Genesis 13:14- 13:18- After Lot left God tells Abraham all this land is yours, walk around in it because it is yours!
- I will make your seed more than you can imagine
- Why did God tell him this? Feel it was God trying to console Abraham about Lot going to Sodom and maybe Abraham was thinking about doing the same
- God went to Abraham three times telling him what he wanted him to do and if he did what God would do for him
- God intervened in Abraham’s life without telling him first or Abraham asked for help, just not recorded. God protected Sarah, who would have the first seed leading to the birth of Jesus Christ, his son
- The key point here is building what it means to believe God to be healed, it isn’t what you say or how you speak that brings anything to pass
- God spoke to Abraham and he acted on what he was told to do. Then God would produce what he promised, as long as Abraham was obedient to what God told him to do

The goals of our Biblical Healing Directory are:
- Produce a listing of churches and organizations that teach Biblical Healing worldwide, so people will have a location to attend that teaches biblical healing. To offer uplifting and inspiring sharing to benefit the reader in his or her quest for Godly answers to personal challenges, especially considering physical healing
- Produce Study Guides, Biblical Teachings, and other materials that teach Biblical Healing and offer a point of contact and sharing for more information on healing. We encourage your thoughts, comments, and suggestions to build and edify the body
- We would be honored if you choose to DONATE in our endeavor to reach people that need healing. Constructive comments and suggestions are also very much welcomed – Dave at [email protected]
